Openings

The Laboratory for Functional Inorganic Materials (LFIM) at EPFL in Switzerland is looking to hire two postdoctoral collaborators, which have a background in chemical and/or process engineering. The positions is focused on implementing CO2 adsorbents in a medium-scale (kg) demonstrators for post-combustion and direct air capture.

Applicants:

For position 1, a PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is preferred with experience in the synthesis of porous materials (zeolites, MOFs, silicas, etc) and structuring (i.e. extrusion, tableting, pelletization).

For position 2, a PhD in Chemical Engineering or Process Modelling is preferred. A background in CO2 separations (including TSA, VSA, TVSA, PSA processes, etc) and knowledge of process modelling tools including Aspen Adsorption and gPROMS is a plus.

– We prefer candidates to have expertise with the following characterization techniques: breakthrough separations, gas and vapor adsorption measurements (calculating selectivity and isosteric heat of adsorption), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD), and various forms of spectroscopy (including NMR, IR, XPS, XAS).

– If you consider yourself to be creative, productive, self-motivated, and enjoy working in a highly competitive and diverse environment, we encourage you to apply.

-Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.

Location: The position is located on the EnergyPolis Campus,  EPFL-Valais in Sion, Switzerland.

Please email your application to Prof. Wendy Queen at [email protected]. Please include a detailed CV, research statement, and the names of at least two references. Please also put “postdoc position_CO2 capture” as the email subject. The position can begin as early as September 2023. Candidates will be encouraged to apply for fellowships.

Engineer Position 1: The Laboratory for Functional Inorganic Materials (LFIM) is looking to hire a new engineer to be focused on the scale up and structuring of porous materials.

Applicant:

– Degree in Chemical/Process Engineering with a particularly strong working knowledge of synthesis of inorganic materials and structuring (extrusion or pelletization). Candidates with a Masters or PhD degree are encouraged to apply.

– Characterization techniques: breakthrough separations, gas and vapor adsorption measurements (calculating selectivity and isosteric heat of adsorption), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD), and various forms of spectroscopy (including NMR, IR, XPS, XAS). It is considered a plus if the candidate has experience with process modelling tools including Aspen Adsorption and gPROMS.

– Creative, productive, with a high level of self-motivation and be motivated to work in a highly competitive and diverse environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong proficiency in English are required.

– We prefer if the candidate is already in Europe or Switzerland due to the time required to obtain a visa. However, all interested candidates are encouraged to apply.

Location: The position is located on the chemistry campus of EPFL-ISIC-Valais in Sion, Switzerland.

Please email your application to Prof. Wendy Queen at [email protected]. Please include a detailed CV, research statement, and the names of at least two references. Please also put “engineer position_scaleup” as the email subject. The position can begin as early as June 2023. Candidates will be encouraged to apply for fellowships.
